Ahh, morning sickness. My new best friend.

Yep, it's true. Morning sickness IS real and is currently running my life. FUN FACT: It doesn't just occur in the mornings! How's that for a double-whammy? Not only am I susceptible to getting sick almost every day, but it can be ANY TIME OF DAY!
Fortunately, I've learned how to avoid this issue for the most part, with a mix of constant snacking, lots of water, and avoiding tight clothes. There are times, however, that I forget to eat "on schedule" or don't eat enough, and my body definitely lets me know. I've also heard that ginger is a good nausea preventative? Maybe I should snort some ginger or at least drink some ginger ale... I'll let you know how that experiment goes. I'll probably just stick with TUMS, to be honest.
It's also very helpful to have a boyfriend who LOVES to cook. Right now, for example, Branden is in the kitchen cooking chicken and rice because my stomach has been pretty angry with me today. He's stocking up on healthy recipes for us as well. How did I get so lucky??

In other news, our New Years Eve/Day went well. We got to spend time with some good friends and enjoy relaxing in Dayton, and then spent the next day watching movies in bed and cleaning my apartment. I hope all of yours went as well, and once again I want to thank you for all of the love and support you're giving Branden and I these days! It helps more than you know.

Love, Jill

  1. Jill -

I fortunately never had morning sickness, except for a couple of weeks where the smell of coffee made me nauseous. But, never sick. I heard protein helps - but I'm not positive about that.

There are two books I'd recommend. I believe the first one is called The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. Basically, it's all the crap that nobody tells you. I can tell you that I absolutely LOVED being pregnant - every disgusting little thing about it. :) This book tells it like it is. I read both this one and "What to Expect..", and they just tell you different things in a very different way.

The second book you can read later in pregnancy and I absolutely SWEAR by it as far as getting your kid on a schedule... it's called Baby Wise. It's so hard to make yourself do it, especially after a rough night of feedings every 1 1/2 hours, but I can tell you that it was a Godsend for getting Ethan to know his days from nights. I actually didn't read this one - my hubby did and then told me what to do. :)

    Good luck!

  2. Thanks, Tara!

I'm so glad the smell of coffee doesn't make me sick, I couldn't survive!
We've got What to Expect... and so far it's done really well with answering most of my questions, but I will definitely check out the two you recommended, especially as the time gets closer and closer.

Thanks for the advice, I love hearing from people with experience!

  3. Hi Jill and Branden,

My daughter Erin can tell you that from her own experience with Nausea, whether it be from morning sickness or car/flight sickness, etc. she eats Gingersnap cookies to tame the beast. I've had to pick up a bag of them along with 7-Up many times through the years. Might be an idea to keep some in a zip-lock type of bag in your purse, car, etc. so they are always handy, that is if you find they do indeed work for you.

For me, it was nothing but time....one day I suddenly didn't have morning sickness and it was just gone. I did do the whole Saltine Crackers and 7-Up and that did help. My Dr. suggested I eat a couple before I even raised my head off of the pillow in the mornings!

The three books - I've heard of all three of them. It's funny but I guess living in the Baby Boom capital of the United States it's understandable that I constantly see the "What to Expect when You're Expecting" book in yard sales, thrift shops, etc. I am sure it's good but once a couple is done having babies, out it goes (either that or they end up with more than one copy.)

    Love, Cindy
