Today was the first time we saw our child. It was something we knew would happen. We have seen and heard about from others. I felt so connected to the world when I saw the little "soy bean" in the monitor. (That's a quote from The Office for those of you that didn't get it.) It was the most sobering, magical moment in my life until the ultra-sound technician pushed a little button on her magic machine and we heard a heartbeat. I haven't experienced the level of emotion that I felt when I heard the 173 beat per minute heartbeat of my new favorite person. It felt like someone threw a bucket of cold water on me that washed away all of the left over doubt and fear. My hair stood on edge and I could hear a vague distant voice saying, "Hi daddy, I'll see you soon."
Coming August 13 to a hospital near you. (due date as of now)
Dear Branden and Jill,
ReplyDeleteYea! for you - a little Leo child (I am biased about being a Leo myself.) :-) The ultrasound experience must have been so delightful for you both! I love how detailed you both write about what you are feeling, thinking and going through. You both write very well!
You are lucky that in this day and age you can keep copies of your ultrasound. When I had one done on Erin I just saw her on the monitor but there were no print outs to be had. Now, there are even retail stores that specialize in them - they are called "Fetal Fotos" and there are several in this area. I'm not sure I think it's a good idea to have more ultrasounds than necessary but I imagine they are hard to resist for those who have extra money to spend.
The photos are precious and a wonderful keepsake. From my years of experience working in Kinko's and the like - let me warn you that they are generally printed on what is thermal paper much like some retail store receipts. With age, sunlight and especially heat, they WILL FADE away!
I always tell anyone who I know that has them to make sure to get them scanned to an archival disc and even get some regular prints made from them as soon as possible. Some people want to laminate them as well but that is a huge no-no.
What a wonderful day for all of you! These next seven months will fly by so enjoy every minute of it.
Love, Cindy
